Rejuvenating WD5KCA Part 2

Hoisting The Antenna

We had some unusually warm weather yesterday, not necessarily nice weather because it was a bit hot.  Anyway it was a good opportunity to continue on the rebuild of WD5KCA.  I was able to complete the antenna and mast assembly and get it up in the air.

antenna 1

antenna 2The antenna is a 3 element dipole in an inverted vee arrangement.  It’s an elegant but simple design.  It has 3 sets of wires.  The longest set is cut for the 20 Meter Amateur Band (14 MHz).  Each wire has a coil at the end that makes it also work on the 40 Meter Band (7 MHz).  The next set is cut for the 15 Meter Band (21 MHz) and the shortest for the 10 Meter Band (28 MHz).  It is made from 12 gage insulated copper wire with plastic spacers to keep the wires separated.  If 2 wires touch while powered bad stuff happens like sparks and smoke!

The feed line is connected and routed also.  All that is left is to snake it into the house and connect it up.  I hope to have time and weather to do that tomorrow.
