It’s Memorial Day, 2022.
This is a day intended to honor and/or mourn the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces.
For a few years now, the local Boy Scouts have been decorating our subdivision with flags during special holidays. This year is no exception.
Here are a couple of photos that I took earlier today.
We lost a family member during World War II. He was James Monroe Johnston Jr., known to family and friends as “Jay”. He was killed by the Japanese in 1942 during the battle Cape Esperance while serving aboard the USS Boise. I came along about 11 years later so I never met this hero.
I stole this photo from my uncle, Charles Johnston.
