College Football Ratings

I have been playing around with college football rankings for many years.  Tonight I decided to make my ranking open to public ridicule praise.  My ranking is based on quality of play and not on some sort of power ranking.  A team may be well able to beat teams above them in my rankings.  My rankings are based only on performance during games already played.

Since someday the world will realize I have a great ranking formula and someone will pay me a bunch of mony for it, I am going to keep the the details secret to protect my intellectual property.  However I will give some hints:

  • Of course, winning matters
  • Playing teams with winning records matter
  • Wins against FCS don’t count.  Losses do.  Beating East Central North Dakota A&M 77-3 is meaningless
  • Margin of victory does not matter
  • Winning on the road is a bonus, losing at home is penalized

So, without further ado, here are my first rankings:
